employee development

graduation photographThe City of Greenville is committed to the professional and personal development of its workforce. We offer a variety of training and development opportunities both through individual departments as well as City-wide. In addition to professional memberships, workshops, certification programs, and seminars sponsored by each department, we offer:

Tuition Assistance/Reimbursement: The City of Greenville offers tuition assistance/reimbursement to all regular, full-time employees who are seeking to continue their personal and professional development. The courses/classes must be taken outside of normal working hours at an accredited college, university, junior college, or business/technical institute. On-line courses are also accepted.

New Employee Orientation (NEO) is a half day session and is conducted on a monthly basis for new employees hired in the previous months. NEO introduces new employees to the leadership/management team, health and wellness, Human Resource policies and procedures, safety and risk management, and a variety of other City-related topics of interest to new employees.

Collective Risk Management Team (CRMT) Training is designed to train a group of City employees (selected by the City Manager) to coordinate the management and resolution of complaints of wrongdoing that have the potential for creating liability for the City. During a workshop, the CRMT will be taught the skills, ethics, legal issues, policies, and process-related awareness to take on such a task. The CRMT is a group of supervisory and non-supervisory employees who represent a cross-section of racial and gender mix.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Commercial Beginner’s Permit (CBP) Reimbursements: Employees required to hold a CDL or CBP as part of their job duties are eligible for reimbursement (or partial reimbursement) for these licenses while employed with the City of Greenville. Certified copies of MVR receipts are required to obtain reimbursements.

Performance Evaluation Training is designed to enhance the City’s supervisory staff’s understanding of performance management and their legal and practical understanding of conducting effective performance evaluations.

Professional Coaching is available for managers and supervisors who want to enhance their leadership and management effectiveness. The coaching program is tailored to the needs of each individual and includes a variety of assessment tools.
