City Manager, James Bourey, appointed by City Council, serves as the chief executive officer for the City of Greenville. Bourey has worked in a management capacity for municipalities in many states, including Arizona, Minnesota, Florida and Washington, however, he and his wife Ann have put down very deep roots in the City of Greenville
Bourey’s responsibilities as City Manager include implementing policies approved by Council, presenting the annual budget, overseeing capital improvement programs and establishing the agenda for Council meetings. He is responsible for the hiring supervision of all City employees and the day-to-day management of the government. He is also charged with maintaining effective and positive relationships with public and private agencies and organizations that affect the City’s interests.
Bourey received Masters Degrees in both Urban Design and Architecture from Washington University. He also has ties to the Carolinas. The City Manager graduated from North Carolina State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree for Environmental Design in Architecture from North Carolina State University.
