If you were involved in the collision, but you did not receive a ticket, you have certain responsibilities:

  • You need to appear on the court date and time that is on your subpoena.

  • The officer is not a witness. [S]he cannot testify for any party of the collision. [S]he can only testify to what [s]he saw upon arrival and what was said to him/her at the scene..

  • Failure to appear in court could result in the ticket being dismissed and the insurance companies having to settle liability through civil means (which can take years).

  • Failing to appear for court as a defendant, victim, or witness can result in a bench warrant for your arrest.

  • Failing to appear or pay the fine for your ticket will result in suspension of your driver's license.
