Medical Management
Some individuals treated with Highly Active AntiRetrovial Therapy (HAART) experience significant improvements, however medications and monitoring associated with HAART are expensive at $10,000 to $15,000 each year.

Case Management
Case management enables each
individual a prescription supportive services plan for their circumstances and goals. Treatment, housing, nutrition, medication, and other essential quality of life interventions would be arranged through the case management approach with resource mobilization and regular contacts and follow-up.

The "absolute poverty line" is the threshold below which families or individuals are considered to be lacking the resources to meet the basic needs for healthy living; having insufficient income to provide the food, shelter and clothing needed to preserve health.

With the National Rate of Poverty of eleven and a half percent, South Carolina remains significantly higher at 14.1% of our population (547,869) individuals at or below poverty levels.

The average monthly income of those surveyed in the Upstate with HIV/AIDS is $570 while the average fair market rent for a 2 bedroom rental is $571.

The Spread of Epidemic = Increase in Public Assistance Need

Poverty contributes to the sharp increase in HIV/AIDS cases as well as the increased level of need. for assistance brought by the epidemic.
