Accepted items inside your bin:
METAL: Aluminum cans, pie pans and foil (clean) & Steel cans or pie pans
PLASTIC: Clean plastic bottles/jugs/jars (Items MUST have a neck)
GLASS: Clean beverage and food glass bottles and jars
FIBER: mixed paper which includes newspaper, junk mail, computer paper, notebook paper, cardboard, chipboard (cereal boxes, cracker boxes, for example), magazines, envelopes and cardboard
*Scrap metals, appliances and tires are accepted for recycling at the curb, just not in the bin
We cannot accept:
ANY ITEMS WITH HEAVY FOOD RESIDUE. Items do not have to be immaculately clean, but cannot have food residue.
PLASTIC: any plastic that is not a bottle/jug/jar such as plastic bags, trays, Styrofoam, toys, diapers, etc. We cannot accept dirty containers such as a mayonaise jar with food residue covering the inside.
GLASS: non-beverage or food glass such as mirrors, windows, ceramic or candle holders
FIBER: heavy wax or plastic coated papers such as laminated sheets, milk cartons, ice cream cartons or juice cartons. Please do not put boxes with food residue in with recyclables. (A little bit of grease on a pizza box is okay, but no heavy residue.)
Putting the wrong items in your bin costs time of the crews on the recycling routes, fuel and can contaminate other clean and acceptable items in the recycling stream. Some items, such as ceramic in the glass recycling stream, can contaminate and completely ruin an entire batch of glass bottles.
